Paris Saint-Germain manager Unai Emery believes the determination and unity of his soldiers on the pitch on Tuesday was key to their successful outing at the Parc des Princes against a Barcelona side that paraded the most dreaded attacking trident in Lionla Messi, Luis Suarez and Nyemar Jr.
Angel di Maria scored twice as Paris St-Germain stunned Barcelona to leave the Spanish side in danger of failing to reach the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time in a decade, with Edinson Cavani and Julian Draxler completing the rout.
The Parisians’ manager in a post match reaction said: “We played well, with talent and the ability to individually make a good game. It was a job with solidarity, everyone played together.
“We worked well the things the game demanded because the opponent is a great team with great players. You have to play 90 minutes with a lot of concentration and efficiency. It still lacks 90 minutes and we will continue with respect and work.
“My job and my place with the PSG and the players have not changed. When one wins, one wins all; When one loses, one loses all. I have a lot of responsibilities. I am very happy, because the team made a great match, with a very strong spirit. The fact that the fans are vibrating with the game of the team is also why I am happy.” said Emery as quoted on L’equipe
The defeat leaves Messi and company with an almighty task to stay in the competition when they host Emery’s men in the return leg on March 8, 2017 at Camp Nou.
No side has managed to overturn a four-goal first-leg deficit in the history of the Champions League.
